A message from Union County Health Commissioner Dr. Jason Orcena
This week we are focused on helping local businesses as they plan to protect their employees and customers. We remain committed to providing the information we have to help individuals and businesses make the best decisions for their families and those who depend upon them. As we move forward, we will continue to stand together in Union County.

Case Count Holds at 28 Cases in Union County: The Union County Health Department continues to report 28 cumulative cases in Union County. This count has held steady since May 7.

3 Contacts for Each Case: Through our contact tracing efforts, the Union County Health Department has monitored and quarantined about 3 close contacts for each case of COVID-19 reported. Roughly 10% of these close contacts have become symptomatic and developed COVID-19. Thank you in large part to the cooperation and compliance of our residents, isolating and quarantining close contacts is slowing the spread of the illness.

Celebrating the Class of 2020: While it is very important to slow the spread of COVID-19, it is also important to recognize and celebrate these graduates who have worked so hard over the last four years to reach this point. We have worked closely with all three local school districts to find a way to hold graduation for the class of 2020 in a unique and safe way. We encourage each family of a 2020 graduate to celebrate their son or daughter’s accomplishments in a smart and safe way. Please consider holding a graduation party virtually, have a drive by graduation parade, make a commemorative video, decorate your door/yard with a display, or hold an end of summer celebration.  As a reminder, per Governor DeWine’s order and President Trumps guidance, mass gatherings are still prohibited and discouraged.

Working with Businesses: The Union County Health Department is working on protocols to help businesses quickly respond to cases of COVID-19 in the workplace. As we continue to reopen, quickly responding to cases to reduce the spread will be essential. While the Union County Health Department builds long-term capacity to respond to possible outbreaks for months to come, we also know the partnership of each business and resident will continue to drive the success in slowing the spread of this virus within Union County.
